Introduction:
==========
NetChess version 2.1 developed by AVM RAO is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for playing chess game. This software can be used  

1. To play chess between two players over network using TCP/IP (LAN) or in internet/intranet (Network vs Network)

2. To send instant message (chat) while playing chess

3. To observe the chess game played between two players over network

4. To play chess between two players on the same board

5. As PGN, FEN, EPD converter. This can be used
   1. To convert PGN to FEN or EPD format
   2. To convert FEG to PGN or EPD format
   3. To convert EPD to PGN or FEN format

6. As PGN, FEN or EPD gave viewer. Load multiple games. This can also be used to load the games and analyze using chess engines

7. To play chess using chess engines (Supports engines with WinBoard 1, 2 and UCI 1, 2 protocols)
   1. Human vs Chess Engine with White side
   2. Human vs Chess Engine with Black side
   3. Chess Engine with White side vs Chess Engine with Black side on the same board
   4. Chess Engine with White side vs Chess Engine with Black side over network (in two different machines)

8. To play with chess engines on the same board or over network

9. To play chess using Internet Chess Servers (ICS)

10. To play chess via email
11. To animate the loaded game and analyze
12. To set the current move to Engine and take control at later stage and many more features

Installation:
==========
WinZip software or zip compression compatible software must be installed in the system for extracting NetChess zip file. Following are the steps for installation.

1. Download Netchess.zip file from Netchess.zip

2. Extract all the files in Netchess.zip file. It will create NetChess directory in the extracted directory.

3. The directory contains NetChess2.1.exe and NetChess2.1.hlp files. Go through help file for usage of the NetChess software

4. Play chess by clicking on NetChess2.1.exe

5. Chess Engines needs to be downloaded and installed to play with chess engines

6. By default, NetChess comes with its own chess font. To use various chess fonts available, download from internet and install. Use Edit->Preferences->Font to select the desired Chess font

7. To play chess over internet/intranet, your machines should not be behind the firewall

To play with chess engines, download chess engine, configure chess engine as mentioned in Help file and play chess. More than 100 freeware/commercial  chess engines available in internet.

Changes in Netchess 2.0: Support for Internet Chess Servers (ICS) is introduced in this revision
Changes in Netchess 2.1: Modified Preference window, Added Chat feature in ICS, Added Computer, Human buttons in Extended mode and fixed time control troubles, some more troubles fixed
